A St. Augustine Electrician for Old Homes, Beach Houses and New Builds

Few towns in Florida mix 100-year-old houses and brand-new subdivisions the way St. Augustine does. Each one is hard on wiring in its own way, so we plan the work around what's actually behind your walls.

The City of St. Augustine and the City of St. Augustine Beach run their own building departments. The rest falls under St. Johns County. We pull the permit either way.

Neighborhoods We Work In

  • Historic District
  • Lincolnville
  • Davis Shores
  • Anastasia Island
  • St. Augustine Beach
  • Vilano Beach
  • World Golf Village
  • Old, worn electrical panel with the cover off, ready to be replaced

    Historic District and Lincolnville Homes

Downtown houses often run a small, worn panel and wiring that was updated in pieces over the decades. We tell you what is safe to keep, replace what isn’t, and leave plaster and trim alone wherever we can.

  • Outdoor equipment panel with breakers and controls installed beside a paver patio

    Anastasia Island and the Beaches

Salt air on Anastasia Island, Davis Shores, St. Augustine Beach and Vilano Beach corrodes outdoor panels, meters and fittings early. We use materials that hold up near the water and add surge protection for the summer lightning.

World Golf Village and Newer Neighborhoods

Builder panels in newer homes are often close to full. Before an EV charger, a pool or a generator goes in, we run a load check and tell you whether your panel can take it.

Owner-Run, With Jesse on Your Job

Jesse Ellowitz owns the company, lives in Nocatee and works the jobs. His name turns up in review after review. People mention that he showed up when he said he would, explained the options, and cleaned up like the crew was never there.

Ask around and you'll hear we take the jobs other electricians pass on. A complicated commercial build. An old house downtown that needs a careful eye. A single new outlet gets the same care. That's what most people want from a St. Augustine electrician, and it's what we try to be.

Keep the Power On With a Generac Standby Generator

When a storm takes the grid down, an automatic standby generator starts on its own and keeps your AC, fridge and well pump running. We size the generator to your home, set the pad, wire the transfer switch and handle the permit.

  • Whole-home or essential-circuit backup
  • Whole-house surge protection for the strikes that come with summer storms

Questions We Hear Most

Are You a Licensed St. Augustine Electrician?

Yes. Ellowitz Electric South is a licensed and insured electrical contractor in Florida, license EC13013683. Our shop is on US-1 North in St. Augustine, and we pull the permits your job needs.

What Is the Difference Between a Certified and a Licensed Electrician in Florida?

Florida licenses electrical contractors two ways. A certified contractor holds a state license that is valid anywhere in Florida, while a registered contractor is licensed only in specific local areas. Our license, EC13013683, is a state certification, so the EC in the number stands for certified electrical contractor.

What Electrical Work Needs a Permit in St. Augustine?

Minor repairs, like swapping a bulb or plugging in equipment, do not. New circuits, panel upgrades and replacements, generators, EV chargers and most rewiring do. The City of St. Augustine and the City of St. Augustine Beach have their own building departments, and the rest of the county falls under St. Johns County. We pull the permit for every job that needs one.

Do You Work on Historic and Older Homes in St. Augustine?

Yes. Older homes downtown and in Lincolnville are a big part of our work. We look at the existing wiring and panel first, explain what is safe to keep and what should be replaced, and work carefully around original plaster, trim and floors.

Can Salt Air Damage My Electrical Equipment?

Yes. Homes on Anastasia Island, at St. Augustine Beach and in Vilano Beach see faster corrosion on outdoor panels, disconnects and fittings. We choose materials and install methods that hold up better near the water.

What Areas Do You Serve?

We work across St. Johns County, with most jobs in St. Augustine, Nocatee, Ponte Vedra Beach and Palm Valley. Our shop is in St. Augustine and Jesse lives in Nocatee, so both ends of the county are close. Not sure we cover your street? Call and ask.

Do You Give Free Quotes?

Yes. Tell us what you need through the quote form or by phone. For bigger jobs like a panel upgrade or a standby generator, we come out, look at your setup and give you a clear price before any work starts.

Do You Work on Homes and Businesses?

Both. We wire new homes and renovations, and we handle commercial work like tenant fit-outs, LED lighting retrofits, service calls and fire alarm systems.
